The Cape Breton Family Resource Coalition operates as a network of family resource centres and programs across Cape Breton Island. Each of the four counties has a family resource centre; these are located in Sydney, Inverness, D'Escousse, and Ingonish Beach. The goal of the project is to reduce risk for young children and their families in an area where services and resources are limited.

The coalition offers a range of coordinated services to promote the well-being of young children including a toy library, group and drop-in play, early intervention, and parent education sessions.

Walking club serving all four counties of Cape Breton Island.   

An affilitated club of the Canadian Volkssport Federation, which promotes non-competitive participation in walking and other physical activities for fun, fitness and friendship.  Ideal for the entire family!

Weekly group walk events held every Tuesday at 10am.  Distance is 10k (kilometers), meeting place is the lobby of the Cambridge Suites on the Esplanade, Sydney.  Snow shoeing and cross country skiing every Wednesday morning at 10am at Ski Ben Eoin. $5.65 for day pass to use the cross country trail. One of six Community Health Boards in the district.  Serving the areas of Sydney, South Bar, Gabarus, Mira Road, Coxheath to Irish Cove.  Using a population health approach, the Board aims to improve the health of its community by seeking to understand the health challenges within the community, establishing priorities for improvement, and supporting community health initiatives.  Contact for more information on activities and opportunities for funding through the Wellness Initiative Fund.
