The Department of Recreation and Leisure Services is committed to providing opportunities that contribute to and enhance the quality of life in the Town of New Glasgow.

A shared program of Cumberland (DHA 5), Colchester East Hants (DHA 4), and Pictou County (DHA 6) district health authorities.  Coping with Quitting is a six-week nicotine treatment, education and support group for people who want to quit smoking. This program provides support to help the individual stay motivated to stop or reduce their smoking. Contact your local office for more information about how to register for this program and other tobacco-related services.

Residents and visitors use the New Glasgow trails on a daily basis for a healthier way of life.  Trails include the Samson (4km), Pioneer (2km), and Johnny Miles Memorial (3km) Trails, situated along the East River.  Trails are available year-round and are all wheelchair accessible; washroom facilities and parking are also available.  Download a brochure which gives information about the trails and a detailed map.  Contact for more information. 

Group of cardiac patients and their partners who gather together on the 2nd Thursday of each month from September through June for information sharing, shared concerns, guest speakers and social activities.  Stroke survivors and their families are also welcome.  Contact for more information.

The Town of Pictou and surrounding area offers a variety of trails suitable for walking, running/jogging, cycling and much more!  The Jitney Walking Trail is a 3km trail along the waterfront in Pictou; the Jitney Trail connects directly to the Trans Canada Trail System for more avid hikers.   The Short Line Trail (12.7km), and the more challenging Fitzpatrick Mountain Trail (8km) are also available.   A walking map of Pictou can also be downloaded (http://www.townofpictou.com/files/21.mapofpictou.pdf).  Contact the Town of Pictou for more information.
