The Annapolis Valley Hants Community Action Program for Children includes three community-based family resource programs:  Apple Tree Landing Children's Centre in Canning, Building Blocks Family Resource Centre in Kennetcook, and Chrysallis House Children's Outreach Program in Kentville.Through these resource centres and a network of outreach programs, the project offers coordinated primary prevention services to families with young children in rural areas. Programs include play and music programs for children, a toy and parent resource library, and workshops and parenting programs for young and single parents.  Contact for more information.

Description:

The Family Support Centre provides education, information, referrals, and support to low-income families through a range of services and outreach programs. Families build on their strengths and learn new skills. The project's objectives are to promote family unity and healthy interactions between parents and children, to promote parenting skills, and to provide a nurturing environment for children ages 0 to 6 with age-appropriate resources aimed at encouraging their physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development.  These objectives are met through parent education and support groups, a nutrition program, child care services and play groups.

The Bridgwater Family Support Centre is a coalition member of the South Shore Family Resource Association.

Description:

The Cape Breton Family Resource Coalition operates as a network of family resource centres and programs across Cape Breton Island. Each of the four counties has a family resource centre; these are located in Sydney, Inverness, D'Escousse, and Ingonish Beach. The goal of the project is to reduce risk for young children and their families in an area where services and resources are limited.

The coalition offers a range of coordinated services to promote the well-being of young children including a toy library, group and drop-in play, early intervention, and parent education sessions.
